Thanks Michael. I'll defintely think about keeping the alloy wheels then, even if only as a second set so they stay with the car for the future.
Kind regards,

Clem

the wheels you know from photos of the 3,5 types are alloy wheels from the firm

" Fuchs" in Germany.

They have been designed in 1968 for the "6.3" but you could order them for all types beginning in autumn 1969 - for heavy money...

The steel wheels are identicaly with the 123 types, so you could use them.

Hello everyone,
My 280 SE coupe 3.5 has alloy wheels fitted (I know these are not the ones the car came from the factory with because a dealer that sold it some years back told me that when he got the car it had non-Mercedes wheels fitted and he found some Mercedes alloy wheels and fitted them)although they look the same as the alloy wheels I see on many 280 SE 3.5's on the internet.
I know that the car was built in 1969. Is is possible to tell from the year of production what the correct wheels are? Were the 1969 280 SE 3.5's fitted with hubcaps or alloy wheels or was this supplied as the customer requested?
If steel wheels with hubcaps, is there anything special about the wheels and hubcaps fitted to the 280 SE 3.5's or are these essentially the same as were fitted to the W123 series? I am asking becuase it should be easy for me to find steel wheels and hubcaps for the W123 series second hand in good condition and obviously will probably be much cheaper than ordering these brand new.
Many thanks in advance,

Clem
